Brief Questions

What is my specific focus within this topic?
(Criminology)
- Rape
- Murder

Nonetheless, this could - possibly - be too varied and complex, therefore after researching further and more in depth, as well as being completely happy with my finalised question, I might restrict to 1 specific focus within this topic.

What particularly interests me about this topic?
I am fascinated in the characteristics of crime, – especially attributes towards murder and rape - after wanting to expand my brief introduction to History at GCSE and my interests involving law and sociology. Furthermore I would like to develop my knowledge on a broader scale and research deep into the most traumatic cases of all time, unravelling the affects, causes, consequences and motifs.
It also interests me how crime is dealt with, some of the most traumatic and horrifying cases, in my opinion, are never justified. For example, a rapist - who possibly commits 4 rapes - could only get 6 years in prison, why not more?
Additionally, I want to seek into the question whether crime is or will ever be justified. For instance, if a murderer killed a fathers child and then the father planned to kill the murderer weeks later, would that be okay?

Am I going to include an argument?
At this moment in time, I am wanting to include an argument - Is crime ever justified?
This would involve a 'for' and 'against' strategy.
There will be many diverse opinions on this question which will help me evaluate this.

What primary resource materials do I need?
- Books from the library
- Historical Documents
- Literary Texts
What secondary resource materials do I need?
- Newspapers
documentaries, films, TV programs etc...
- Researched cases
- The internet

What kind of examples can I glean for my assignment?
There are many examples that I can sufficiently use for my project:
Eg:
  •  Tv programs: making a murder, forensic files, cold case files, american justice, cold justice etc...
  • Crime Cases: The Shoe Rapist for example
  • Quotes
  • Documents such as Newspapers
  • Peoples diverse opinions
Where will I find my research?
- Library
- Online
- Television
- In books/newspapers

How much breadth or depth can be covered?
As my topic is quite varied - but not too varied that it becomes too complex and confusing - I can cover a lot of depth within this project; due to there being a myriad of cases and information, which is not only needed to investigate/evaluate this topic, but to make it interesting and thought-provoking.

How much material can I afford to explore?
I would like to include a minimum of three cases per sub-topic, depending on the case itself.

What research method will I draw upon in order to 'investigate', 'evaluate' or 'review' the topic?
I am hoping to divide my research in categories, for example:

  • I am going to split my primary research from my secondary
  • Then, for instance I will section each one, my research from newspapers will be separated from my research from documentaries. This will help me show the different materials I have used and will make it easier to display what I need to include more/less on.
  • Cases will also be divided by the sub-topics
  • General research, along side my ideas, for example my opinion on this project will be separated.
  • A 'for' and 'against' approach will also be divided into two.

  1. Primary resources are interviews of law makers for eg, surveys, focus groups. Find some people you could email and some you could interview. Narrow down your sources, do your twenty questions tasks see if you can develop your title question. Would you like to focus on a particular crime, research most common or most aggressive crimes perhaps. When you've sorted out more specific research, type these answers up into a paragraph.
